Patient JZ is a 28 year old welder who sustained burn injuries to his face during a gas explosion at work. He attended four local doctors who could not help him prior to attending Korle Bu, his presentation was delayed and this resulted in scar and deformity. He could not fully open his mouth and suffered ectropion (eversion of the eyelid).
He has undergone several reconstructive surgeries under the care of the plastic surgeons at Korle Bu. Skin grafts taken from his thigh, and delicate release of peri-occular contractures has allowed him to speak, eat and shut his eyes again.
He has changed career following his injury and now works with an engineering firm to support his wife and 2 month old child. (Study: ST)
