BP is a nine year old boy who travelled for over a day to reach Korle Bu. He presented with advanced ulcerative disease. He had initially tried to hide the lump on his ankle as he thought it represented bad luck or a curse. When the disease progressed to the ulcerative phase his family sought help from a local elder who rubbed natural ointments on the wound.

He presented to plastic surgery services with advanced disease, as is typical of patients with Buruli Ulcer disease. He received combined antibiotic and surgical treatment. The lesion was excised with the edges undermined. A split skin graft was later used to fill the resultant defect.

BP was scared he would lose his leg and also his friends, but thanks to the plastic surgery team at Korle Bu he was able to return to playing with his peers very quickly.
